We were so honored today to visit the Fulton School for the Deaf to teach a permaculture class and install our Week 1 Growing Hope food garden!
Since schools in Kwazulu-Natal only opened on the 16th of January 2022, after an exended Christmas, I'm so grateful for Fulton's Principal talking to me during her holiday to make plans for this visit to happen the same week as school started. She also kindly agreed to translate for us during the permaculture class!
It was such an honor to meet the kids and receive our names in "sign." It was a true priviledge to be there. We had a great time in the garden with the kids.
I also learned before hand, that Fulton has gardening and food production as core subjects for their students, to support their students to have a life long skill that they can use, and find employment in. When hearing this, it felt like it was the perfect school to start our Growing Hope Mission 2022 movement with!
Thank you to the sponsor of this garden, Jo Heckett, for jumping in immediately sponsoring the first garden (the moment she heard about the Growing Hope Movement)! She was the first sponsor for #Mission2022 and we will forever be grateful to her for taking on that leadership role!
