Sponsor and Spark a Food Garden!
We are teaching permaculture and planting food gardens in South African schools in 2022.
Your sponsorship can create more meaning than you could ever imagine possible!
What You Will Receive for your Sponsorship!
This is a social venture and as such it's not just about "giving"- we aim to "give back" more than "feeling good" for "doing good."
For each full sponsorship you / your company will receive the following marketing and advertising activities:1. Invoice (for expensing)
This is a social venture, as such we can provide your business (or you) with an invoice for your sponsorship, which you can then expense as recommended by your tax advisor.
2. Sponsorship Attribution
Your name or business name will be listed on our sponsorship list and page on this site! For the life of this website, your backlink and attribution will remain. See our list here.
3. Social Media Shout Outs!
We love highlighting our sponsors. We will mention you on our social accounts. We will be in touch with sponsors to confirm your social @handles and any information we need.
4. Sponsor Blog Post
We will publish a blog post crediting the sponsor of each garden and whenever possible include photos from "Planting Day" (Blogs published within 30 days of garden planting).
What You're Sponsoring for a School in South Africa!
For each full sponsorship each school will receive:
1. New addition: School Assembly Presentation
We are starting to pilot presenting a short talk to the entire school wherever possible (teachers and learners) so that the entire school knows about the gardening project and can then participate in the nurturing and preservation of their school garden. We also hope this will inspire children to take what they learn home with them, to save seeds from their own "food waste", and plant these to start or expand home growing of vegetables. Learning basic principles like mulching, crop cover, seed savings and chop and drop can make a big difference in the quality and quantity of their harvest.
2. Updated: Educational Permaculture Guide Booklet
We have collaborated with our Permaculture partners to create a booklet which we print and gift to schools (minimum 35 manuals) for the principals, teachers and groundsmen and the learners participating in the class. It's supportive for them to refer to this as they learn and grow with their garden. If/when we receive additional sponsorship ($100-$150 per school) we would like to print manuals for every learner at the school so they can take home manuals to inspire home growing. Depending on the size of the school it could be around 1800 booklets
3. The Permaculture Class & Hands on Demo
We arrange with the permission of the school a class and lesson for a group of students (and teachers or groundsman) on permaculture principles and methods to support soil regeneration, thereby improving crop quantity and quality.
4. The Garden Initiation
We initiate the set up and planting of a food garden which the students themselves participate in and "get their hands dirty". The class and demo are given live as the garden is co-created with all participating.
5. Mulch, mulch and more mulch
A truck load of mulch (straw, hay, sawdust, dry grass) mixed with horse stable sweep and manure for the building, regeneration and protection of the soil, into which the seeds and plants can thrive. We follow a no dig (no till) approach!
6. Vegetable and Herb Seedlings 500+
A gift of a variety of over 500 vegetable and herb seedlings, edible flowers and companion plants to seed diversity of life and quickly create organic matter than can be consumed, but also to build and regenerate the soil.
7. Seeds, seeds and more seeds!
A bag of mixed seeds for crop cover that are planted between the vegetable seedlings and herbs. This garden "starter" mix supports improving the soil regeneration.
8. Comfrey Roots
We make sure each garden grows comfrey so they can also make their own natural fertilizer. Comfrey growing in ones garden makes such a big difference.
Ways To Support & Contribute
We accept Credit Card payments via Payfast, Electronic Transfers (EFT's), PayPal and (Transfer)Wise.1Full Sponsorship
Garden & ClassR9,500 ($595) all 8 deliverables mentioned above in an under resourced school in South Africa, plus a support visit mid- and end-of-season to seed save from the harvest and to chop-and-drop to reseed their garden. Plus an assembly presentation (wherever possible) to inspire learners to grow at home.
2School Gardening & Eco Club
R17,000 ($995) will sponsor the piloting of an Eco-Club at an interested school that will be an 8-week program for a core group of enthusiastic students. We will take them deeper into permaculture principles and soil regeneration practices and support them in establishing a sustainable garden.
3Other Sponsorship Amounts
Any amount is received with gratitude. If the amount sponsored is not a Full Sponsorship, we will put it towards a need at the time of sponsorship. If you have ability to sponsor more than one school, please be in touch. Currently seeking funds for printing more manuals and to fund fuel and seeds for follow up visits.
We are regenerating the soil with this project. Building soil and taking climate action.
We are also empowering children and schools to know how to grow their own food and how to rebuild severely damaged soil, even when top soil is missing.
Mission 2022 is part of a multi-year vision and each year will build upon the previous years mission!Frequently Asked Questions
